PARIS, FRANCE – College of Charleston assistant sailing coach Ian Barrows earned bronze in the men's skiff event Friday morning. Barrows and partner Hans Henken, whose sister Paris Henken sailed at Charleston and became the first female Olympian in school history, are first time Olympians themselves.
Â
The duo of Barrows and Henken recorded ten top 10 finishes across the 12 preliminary races and jumped from 12th place to 6th overall from the first to second day of racing. Third and second places finishes in the ninth and tenth races, respectively, propelled the team to 4th overall heading into the medal race.Â
Â
Barrows and Henken used an eighth-place finish in the medal race, which bested Team Ireland's 18th place regatta, to jump into third place overall and secure bronze.
