
Peschiera Captures First Olympic Medal

PARIS, FRANCE – College of Charleston alumnus Stefano Peschiera '18 took home bronze in the men's dinghy event Wednesday morning. Peschiera captured his first Olympic medal with a ninth place finish in the medal race, narrowly securing 3rd from Hungary and Norway. He earned Peru's first Olympic medal since Barcelona 1992 and the country's first in a sailing event.
Peschiera finished top 15 in seven of the eight preliminary races, including a first-place finish in the second race and fourth place in the eighth race. Despite finishing in ninth in the medal race, Peschiera's total net points from racing (80) were lower than Hungary (84) and Norway (85).
His third Olympic games, Peschiera finished 31st in Rio 2016, becoming the first person to represent Peru at the Olympic Games in the event and 25th in Tokyo 2020. The 2018 College Sailor of the Year secured gold in the ILCA 7 class at the 2023 Pan American Games, qualifying him for the 2024 Olympics.
Peschiera joins assistant coach Ian Barrows to medal at the 2024 Olympic games as Barrows secured bronze himself in the men's skiff event Aug. 2.
