Cougars Bounce Back at Elon

ELON, N.C. – The College of Charleston men's basketball team got back in the win column with a 76-62 win at Elon on Saturday night.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Derrin Boyd opened the game with a corner three before the Cougars fell cold from the field, going 1-8 during a three-minute stretch.
  • After falling behind 16-10, a 7-0 run highlighted by a trey from AJ Smith pushed Charleston back in front with just under ten minutes to play in the half.  
  • Three straight makes in the paint by Elijah Jones and a CJ Fulton triple helped Charleston enter the locker room up 35-29. Smith led the Cougars with eight points in the frame.
  • Smith went on a personal 6-2 run to open the second half and help push the Cougar lead to ten at 45-35 with 15 minutes remaining.
  • Charleston extended the lead to 61-46, shooting 61% from the field in the second half to secure the 76-62 win.


KEY COUGARS
  • Smith matched his Cougar-high with 20 points.
  • Ante Brzovic notched his 15th career double-double with 18 points and 12 rebounds while Lazar Djokovic recorded his second career double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds
  • Boyd rounded out the double-figure scorers with ten for his 12th straight in double-figures.


GAME NOTES
  • Charleston outrebounded Elon, who entered the contest averaging the sixth most rebounds per game in the nation, 40-33.
  • The Cougars shot 49% from the field compared to the Phoenix's 42%.
  • Charleston recorded ten steals, the fifth time this season in double-digits.
  • The Cougars caused 13 Elon turnovers and capitalized with 22 points off the miscues.
  • The game marked Fulton's 100th career start.
  • This is the sixth straight win Charleston over Elon and the first home loss for the Phoenix this season.
UP NEXT
  • The Cougars, now 16-5 and 6-2 in league play, will welcome Stony Brook to TD Arena on Thursday, January 30 for a rematch of last season's CAA Championship. Action is set for 6:00 p.m.
  • The contest will mark the season debut for Charleston on CBS Sports Network.
