
Cougars Return to Win Column with Victory Over Charlotte

CHARLESTON, S.C. – The College of Charleston men's basketball team returned to the win column with a 74-67 win over Charlotte Sunday evening at TD Arena.

- After giving up the opening basket of the game, Charleston made four of their first five from the field to take an early 10-3 lead.
- Charleston led by as much as nine in the half behind four triples from Martin Kalu. The 49ers came with two at 25-23 with seven minutes to play before a Bryce Baker driving layup and Christian Reeves old fashioned three-point play extended the Cougar lead back to six to enter the locker room up 39-33. Charleston shot 48% from the field in the opening frame.

- Charlotte opened the second half on a 17-6 run to take a 50-47 lead with twelve minutes to play before taking a five-point lead, their largest of the game, with five minutes to play.
- Charleston caused four 49ers turnovers in three minutes to help tie the contest before Jlynn Counter went on a personal 10-0 run to flip the score 70-65 Cougars. The Cougars ended the contest going 4-5 from the field, including a key Connor Hickman reverse layup, to cap a 14-2 run and secure the 74-67 victory.

KEY COUGARS
- Kalu led Charleston with a game-high 18 points and eight rebounds followed by Counter with 17 points and four assists.
- Reeves added 13 points, going 6-9 from the field with five rebounds.
- Chris Davis Jr. was the fourth Cougar in double-figure scoring with 11 points off the bench.

GAME NOTES
- Charleston shot 50% from the field, the Cougars' second time this season crossing the 50% threshold.
- The teams grabbed an even 32 rebounds each.
- Four different Cougars recorded three or more assists.
- The Cougars have not lost so far this season when leading at halftime.
