CHARLESTON, S.C. - College of Charleston senior
Kieron van Wyk won the individual title at the Hootie at Bulls Bay Intercollegiate on Tuesday afternoon.
van Wyk posted a 8-under, bogey-free final round complete with six birdies and an eagle to secure a 14-under victory by two strokes over South Carolina's Frankie Harris. This is van Wyk's second individual title of the season. He previously won the White Sands Bahamas Invitational, which earned him an exemption to the 2025 PGA Puerto Rico Open where he finished T4 (-19).
Charleston came in fourth place (-25), five strokes behind co-champions #39 Purdue and #18 South Carolina and two strokes behind third place Furman. The Cougars posted the lowest team total in the second round to help propel them to the top of the leaderboard. This marks the second straight season the Cougars have finished in fourth place at the Hootie.Â
Nevill Ruiter,
Waymon Thomas, and
Loran Appel all finished T26 at 3-under. Ruiter led the field in total birdies with 16, followed closely by van Wyk with 15. Thomas' final round of 69 is a new collegiate low round for the sophomore.Â
Tim Bertenbreiter, who was playing as individual, joined van Wyk with an eagle during the final round.Â
The Cougars return to action on April 5 for their final regular season tournament before the CAA Championship, playing in the Augusta Haskins Award Invitational.
