Men's Golf Opens Play at Athens Regional

ATHENS, Ga. - The College of Charleston men's golf team sits in seventh place (-1) after Monday's opening round of the NCAA Athens Regional played at the University of Georgia Golf Course.

The low five teams and low individual from each region will qualify for a spot in the championship finals. Thirty teams and six individuals in total will compete in the finals from Friday, May 29 to Wednesday, June 3 at Omni La Costa Resort & Spa in Carlsbad, California. The Cougars are currently four strokes out of fifth place.

Loran Appel leads Charleston after a -2 round to end the day at T12. The junior sank four birdies on the day.

Jules Lauer and Miles Eubanks posted matching even par rounds while Nevill Ruiter and Johan Bredenkamp both went +1.

The Cougars return to action tomorrow, May 19, for the second round.
