
Cross Country Announces 2026 Captains

Charleston, S.C. - The College of Charleston men's and women's cross country teams have announced the captains for the 2026 season.
Declan Byrne, Andrew Catapano, and Andrew Fielding will serve as captains for the men's team, while Lauren Resnick, Katie O'Toole, and Sydney Peer will lead the women's team.
Byrne, a graduate student from Ridgewood, N.J., came to Charleston by way of University of Memphis in 2025. He turned in a standout opening season, posting the team's top 8k time of the year at 24:26.8 to win the CAA Championship. He went on to finish fourth overall in the 10k at the NCAA Southeast Regional with a time of 31:59.2.
Junior Andrew Catapano has posted a personal best in every season of competition with the Cougars. Between his freshman and sophomore seasons, he shaved off more than two minutes of his 10k time, improving from 35:01.8 to 32:53.2. During his sophomore campaign, he earned a top-20 finish in the 8k at the Chanticleer Challenge with a time of 25:03.3.
Andrew Fielding, the senior out of Chelsea, Ala., recorded an 8k personal best of 27:43.62 at the 2025 Chanticleer Challenge. During his freshmen campaign, Fielding earned his personal best 6k time of 20:52.4 at the Buccaneer Invitational.
O'Toole, a senior from Milton, Mass., had an impressive 2025 season, earning a personal best 6k time of 22:26.5 at the CAA Championships, before lowering that mark with a time of 22:08.6 at the NCAA Southeast Regional two weeks later. O'Toole also put up her best 5k time at the Chanticleer Challenge last season, finishing in 18:10.9.
Peer, a senior from Westlake, Ohio, returns to cross country competition for the Cougars for the first time since 2023. In her last cross country race, she won the CAA Championship 6k with a time of 23:17.9. She also posted a 5k time of 18:59.94 at the Royals Challenge.
Resnick has steadily improved her times across multiple distances. Her 2025 season was highlighted by a 5k time of 19:29.5 at the 2025 Chanticleer Challenge, followed by a 24:26.3 time in the 6k at the Fire Tower Project meet.
Charleston opens the 2026 season at Charleston Southern on Sept. 4 at the CSU Buccaneer Open.
