Ernest A. Wehman, Honorary (Basketball)
Ernest Wehman, owner of a local sporting goods store, was named varsity basketball coach in 1944, when Willard Silcox, Sr., took a leave of absence to serve in World War II. Wehman capably filled in with the help of such players as Sam Boodie and later, Ben Goldberg. Under Wehman's watch, the College produced a number of eventual Hall of Fame players and broke a three-year victory drought over an intercollegiate team with a 41-32 win over Wofford on Jan. 20, 1941. He coached the Maroons for nine seasons and amassed a 52-92 record.
