Dr. Theodore Stern, Honorary (College President)
Dr. Theodore Stern, President of the College of Charleston from 1968-1979, was responsible for instituting scholarship varsity athletics. Under his leadership, the F. Mitchell Johnson Center was begun and the Stern Student Center was completed and named in his honor. President Stern enjoyed the thrill of athletic competition. An alternate for the U.S. Swim Team in the 1932 Olympics, he attended hundreds of athletic contests at the College, and often opened his home for team dinners and gatherings.
