Harris Teeter Student-Athletes of the Week

Jenny Martin | Women’s Track & Field | Senior | Lansdale, Pa. | Hospitality & Tourism Management/ Business Administration
Jenny Martin placed second in the heptathlon at the 2019 Colonial Athletic Association Track & Field Championships and earned a spot on the podium for the third time of her career. The senior broke her own school record with 4,719 points to take runner-up honors for the second-straight year after finishing third in 2017. Martin turned in a PR in the high jump (1.59 meters and 5-2 ½) to move into seventh all-time in school history and had heptathlon PRs in the long jump (5.19 meter and 17-0 ½), shot put (10.33 meters and 33-10 ¾) and 200 meters (27.22). Her distance in the shot put was the longest among the heptathlon competitors and she was second in the javelin and 100-meter hurdles. Martin also scored for the College of Charleston women’s track & field team in the open javelin finishing seventh with a throw of 40.11 meters (131-7). In addition to her outdoor school rankings in the heptathlon and high jump, Martin finished her career third all-time in the javelin, fourth in the 100 hurdles and 10th in the shot put.
Izzy Berouty | Softball | Junior | Redondo Beach, Calif. | Marketing
Izzy Berouty was outstanding in the circle during a three-game sweep of UNCW that clinched a berth in the CAA Tournament for the College of Charleston softball team and earned her conference pitcher of the week honors. In three appearances, she picked up two saves and a win while allowing only one hit and no runs in 9.1 innings. In the Friday opener, Berouty entered in the seventh after a five-run rally gave the Cougars the lead and induced a game-ending double play grounder. In the nightcap of the doubleheader, she pitched the final three innings and retired nine of the 10 batters she faced for her second save of the day. That upped her season total to five – breaking her own school record – and increased her school career record to 12. In the series finale on Saturday, Berouty inherited a bases loaded jam in the second and retired the final batter of the inning, before setting down 15 of the next 17 batters to gain her eighth win of the season.
