Austin Davis was named the Charleston Athletics Director of Sports Performance in May 2026.
Davis reunites with John Groce in Charleston after serving in the same role at Akron since 2024, helping the Zips to back-to-back MAC Conference Championships. Prior to his time in Akron, Davis had a brief stint as the Director of Men’s Basketball Performance at Coastal Carolina from April 2024 – July 2024 and was the Assistant Director of Sports Performance at Western Carolina from 2022 -2024.
Davis played college basketball at the University of Michigan from 2016-2021, serving as a team captain in 2021 under head coach Juwan Howard, helping the Wolverines to back-to-back Big Ten tournament titles and a trip to the National Championship in 2018.
Following his time with the Wolverines, Davis played professionally in Poland before returning to his alma mater for a strength and conditioning internship under Jon Sanderson, Michigan’s head strength and conditioning coach. He worked primarily with the Michigan men’s and women’s basketball teams, as well as the golf teams in his return to Ann Arbor.
Davis is a Certified Strength & Conditioning Specialist (NSCA), a USA Weightlifting Level 1 Coach (USA Weightlifting), Precision Nutrition Level 1 certified, Applied Performance Coach certified, 3DMAPS certified, and CPR/AED certified through the American Red Cross.
He earned a Bachelor of Science in movement science from Michigan in 2020 before earning his Master of Science in movement science from Michigan in 2021.
