- Three-Time CAA Coach of the Year (2014, 2016 and 2017)
Mark McEntire is in his 12th season as head men's golf coach at the College of Charleston.
The three-time CAA Coach of the Year, McEntire led the Cougars to their first conference title in 12 years with a CAA Championship trophy in the program's inaugural season in the league in 2014.
In 2016, he followed it up by guiding the program to its third-consecutive CAA Championship title by a 22-stroke margin of victory, seven Top 5-or-better tournament finishes, a No. 44 national ranking and third-straight NCAA Regionals berth.
During the 2011-12 season, the Cougars finished third at the Southern Conference Championships at Daniel Island Club. The team had nine top-10 finishes on the season, including two top-2 finishes. They also finished third at SoCon's in 2012-13 and Josh Lorenzetti earned individual medalist honors becoming the first freshman in league history to do so.
In the 2010-11 season the Cougars started off the year by placing third at the Invitational at the Ocean Course. The season culminated with a fifth-place finish at the Southern Conference Championship.
The men's golf team closed out the 2008-09 season with a second-place finish at the Charleston Southern Spring Invitational. Tim Tang led the Cougars with a tie for third, after firing a 69 in the first round. In 11 tournaments, Charleston has finished in the top 10 in five of them, including a fourth at the Stono Cup and a sixth at the Pat Hicks Invitational. The Cougars competed at the Southern Conference Tournament and finished ninth. Tang led the effort, tying for 26th.
The 2007-08 season proved to be another successful campaign under McEntire. The Cougars, who earned eight top 10 finishes, placed second at the Southern Conference Championship, fourth at the Texas Cup and fourth at the Hawaii Intercollegiate finishing above such notables as Texas, UNLV and Pepperdine. The Cougars posted a school-record 20-under-par, 268 in the opening round of the Hawaii Tournanent at Honolulu's Turtle Bay Resort.
In 2006-07 the Cougars had seven top 10 finishes, including a fourth at the Cleveland Golf/Palmetto Intercollegiate in March. Freshman Harrison Moore had a career-best finish at the Rice Intercollegiate, finishing second. Other top 10 finishes by individual Cougars this season included an eighth by Scott Glaze at the Palmetto Intercollegiate, a fifth by Gari Maton at the Hawaii Fall Intercollegiate, and a fifth by Scott Larkin at the Middle Tennessee intercollegiate.
In 2005-06 his Cougar team finished second at the Southern Conference tournament. Charleston finished in the top five in four tournaments, including a second at the Charleston Southern Fall Invitational.
Prior to his stint at LSU, McEntire served three years at the Division II level as head coach at St. Edward's University. Under his guidance, the Hilltoppers advanced to the 2004 NCAA Division II Regional Tournament for the first time in school history.
While competing on the collegiate level at Texas, McEntire participated in the 1999 U.S. Amateur at Pebble Beach and the 2000 Public Links Championship in Portland, Ore. His previous work experience includes working in the UT Compliance office and as a teacher for beginning and advanced golf classes at Texas.
A native of Austin, Texas, McEntire graduated from the University of Texas in 2000 with a bachelor's degree in sports management. He was a four-year letterman for the Longhorns and was elected team captain by his fellow golfers for the 1999-00 season. McEntire attended Anderson High School.
He and his wife, Meredith, have two sons, Ford Liam, born on March 8, 2012, and Grayson Carter, born on March 28, 2017. They currently reside in Charleston.
