David Land joined the College of Charleston athletic department as the Director of Sports in April 2024.

Land primarily works with the Cougar’s men’s basketball, and women’s volleyball teams. In his first season in Charleston, he saw the MBB team win 24 games and helped lead the Volleyball program to a CAA Regular Season and Tournament Championship.

From 2021-2023 Land was in Tampa working with the South Florida Bull’s men’s basketball, and women’s golf teams. Land worked hand in hand with head coach Brian Gregory, the current GM of the Phoenix Suns. During his tenure the Women’s Golf team also qualified for the NCAA tournament for the first time in 11 years.  

A veteran of the profession, Land served as the Director of Strength & Conditioning for the Iowa State Cyclone men’s basketball team. Land spent the two years prior to Ames serving as strength coach for Mike Young at Virginia Tech (2019-20) and Wofford (2018-19).

Prior to joining Young in Blacksburg, Land played a major role in Wofford’s best season in program history. The Terriers had their first AP Top 25 ranking, a 21-game win streak, undefeated conference record (18-0) and the first NCAA Tournament win in school history.

Before coming to Spartanburg for the 2018-19 season, Land served as the Director of Olympic Strength & Conditioning for the Utah State Aggies, where he directly worked with men’s and women’s basketball, and volleyball teams.

From 2013 to 2017 Land was a part of 5 OVC championships during his time at Murray State University working with Men’s and Women’s Basketball, Tennis, and Golf. Capping the 2013-14 MBB season off with a CIT Championship and helping lead the ’14-’15 Racers to an AP Top 25 ranking and a 25-game win streak.

He has also worked in various capacities in the strength departments at NC State, UNC Wilmington, East Tennessee State, Appalachian State, and Milligan College.

Land is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) through the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA), in addition to being CPR/AED certified.

A Raleigh, NC native, Land graduated with his Bachelors in Exercise Science from Appalachian State University in 2011, and completed his Masters in Sport Physiology and Performance from East Tennessee State University in 2013.

Land and his wife Julie were married in 2018. They have a son, Hudson, and daughter, Avery.
