Chris Horschel is in his 15th year at the College of Charleston and 12th year leading the Cougars' Sports Medicine department. Horschel was elevated to Assistant Director of Athletics for Sports Medicine in August of 2021.
Horschel will continue helping student-athletes, coaches and staff safely navigate the COVID-19 pandemic while overseeing the Sports Medicine department and serving as the athletic trainer for the men’s basketball and men’s and women’s golf programs.
Horschel joined the staff after serving as an athletic trainer from 2003-08 at Bridgewater College in Bridgewater, Va. From 2001-03, he was an athletic trainer at The Citadel where he earned his master's degree in education. Horschel also worked as an orthopedic cast technician at MUSC from 1998-00.
A 2001 graduate of the College of Charleston, Horschel earned his bachelor's degree in physical education with a concentration in athletic training. Prior to undergrad, he served in the U.S. Navy as a Hospital Corpsman from 1992-98.
He is certified by the National Athletic Trainers' Association (NATA) and is an American Red Cross Instructor for CPR/AED Essentials. Horschel also serves as an Approved Clinical Instructor for the undergraduate athletic training curriculum program at CofC.
Horschel resides in Charleston with his wife, Tiffany, a 2001 CofC graduate, and their two daughters, Darby and Lottie.
