The Cougars drop their first SoCon game of the season to go to 1-4 overall and 1-1 in the league. The Mocs, winners of five straight, improve to 7-2 and 2-0.
The Cougars were down by only two with 11:15 left in the first half, but the Mocs went on an 11-2 run over the next nine-and-a-half minutes to increase the lead to 25-14 with 2:22 left. Chattanooga went into the locker room with a 12-point, 30-18 lead. Chattanooga shot 39.3 percent from the floor and held Charleston to 27.6.
The Mocs opened the second half with a 10-2 run the first four minutes to take their largest lead of the game at 20, 40-20. Facing their largest deficit, the Cougars responded and when Marketta Talley knocked down a three pointer the Cougars were within 12 at 42-30 with 13:34 to play in the game.
Charleston went on a 6-0 run to start the final 10 minutes of action to cut the lead to 14 at 50-36, but got no closer.
Leading the Cougars was Patrice Bryant and Christina Williams, who both had eight points. Williams' eight points marked her career-high. Miranda Warfield followed Brown with 16 points in the winning effort for the Mocs.
Chattanooga shot 39 percent from the field for the game, while the Cougars, who had more shot attempts, finished the night with a 27.6 field goal effort. The Mocs out-rebounded the Cougars 51-31 and were 23-for-31 from the free-throw line for a season-high 76.2 percent.
The College of Charleston hosts Morehead State Dec. 17th at 7:00 PM, before taking on conference foe Davidson Dec. 20th at 2:00 PM. Chattanooga hosts UNC Greensboro Dec. 18th in a 7:00 PM contest at McKenzie Arena.
