Carrie Geden led the way for the Cougars with 12 points and Patrice Bryant scored 11 points and grabbed six rebounds. Emilee Terry posted a career high with 10 rebounds. The Spartans out shot the Cougars 40 percent to 33.9 percent for the game.
The Cougars led midway through the first half and when Marketta Talley knocked down the jumper the score was 16-15 Charleston. The Spartans took the lead for good on two free throws with Kellan Law with 9:07 left in the half at 17-16. UNC Greensboro took their largest lead of the half when Lambert buried the three-pointer to set the score at 33-23 with 4:19 to play until halftime.
Charleston responded to the deficit and went into halftime on a 16-2 run capped off by Shanna Mickens jumper with four seconds left to put the score at 39-35 Spartans going into the locker room. There were five lead changes and three ties in the first 20 minutes of the game.
The Spartans stretched their lead in the first few minutes of the second half and were up 48-39 on Jasmine Byrd's lay up five minutes into the half. The Cougars got as close as four points at 52-48 when Geden converted the lay up off the assist from Melissa Chambers with 9:04 to play.
Greensboro put the game away on a 13-2 run over the next five minutes capped off Stephanie Britt's lay up to make the score 65-50. The Spartans achieved their largest lead of the game at 17 on Megan Honeycutt's made free throw in the final minute.
The Cougars will attempt to record their 500th win in program history when they travel to Conway, SC to face Coastal Carolina on January 14th at 7:00. The Spartans host Western Carolina on January 17th at 7:00.
