Furman went on a 12-0 run in the first half to take a 15-3 lead at the 14:16 mark before extending the lead to 17 with 1:32 to play. Charleston went on a 6-0 run to end the half with Furman leading 34-23.
The Cougars kept the game within 10 for the majority of the second half and cut the lead to five on a three-point shot from Shanna Mickens. The Lady Paladins took the lead to as many as 19 before securing the win.
Orion Wake and Jen Nadalin led the scoring, tallying 13 points a piece. Deshara Shealey and Tommi Paris each added 11 with Shealey adding six assists and two steals. Patrice Bryant led the Cougars with 12 points and added seven boards.
With the win, Furman will face the winner of Davidson/Western Carolina in the semifinals beginning at 2:30 p.m.on Friday, March 5 at the North Charleston Coliseum. The game will be televised live on Comcast Sports Southeast.
