Higgs and Mitchell joined sophomore point guard Jill Ingram in double-figures in the scoring column, as Mitchell scored 14 and pulled down 10 rebounds while Ingram added 13 points, three steals and two assists for the Yellow Jackets.
Tech shot over 80 percent from the free-throw line, converting on 21-of-26 from the charity stripe, while the Cougars were limited to just seven free throws on 11 attempts.
The Jackets scored 14 second-chance points, pulling down 15 offensive rebounds, while limiting the Cougars to just two points and five offensive boards. Overall, Tech recorded 21 more rebounds than the Cougars, outrebounding the College of Charleston, 46-25.
Senior Jessica Williams led all players on the boards on the night, pulling down 11 rebounds while scoring four points in 23 minutes off the bench.
Tech carried a 14-point lead into the locker room at halftime, scoring 15 of its 31 points off 12 Cougar turnovers in the frame. Tech also converted on 12-of-15 from the charity stripe while limiting the Cougars to just four free-throw attempts in the first 20 minutes of the game. Janie Mitchell led all scorers with 10 points in the half, while senior Jessica Williams came off the bench to record six rebounds for the Yellow Jackets.
College of Charleston was led by Melissa Chambers, who hit seven field goals, scoring 15 points, and Marketta Talley, who added 11 points and four assists. Erica Irick pulled down six rebounds to pace the team.
The Yellow Jackets will return to action Sunday when they host Appalachian State at 2:00 PM. The Cougars return home Dec. 3rd for a 2:00 PM tip-off.
