Stetson falls to 0-6 on the year, while the College of Charleston improves to 3-2.
Charleston jumped out to a 13-point lead the first 10 minutes of the game before Stetson chipped away at the deficit to get within six with 6:03 left. The Cougars went on a 7-2 run to close out the first half and went into intermission leading 27-16.
The Cougars opened the second half strong, going on a 13-4 run to go up by 20 (40-20) with 14:42 before Stetson began its comeback. The Hatters, down 47-29 with 8:58 left, went on a 14-0 run over the next six minutes to cut the Cougar lead to four at 47-43 with just under three minutes left in the game. A free throw by Tiffany Green ended the drought at 2:49. Clutch free throw down the stretch kept the Hatters just out of reach and the Cougars won 54-47.
Charleston shot .358 from the field, while Stetson shot .382. Both teams were mediocre from the free throw line, with Stetson going three-for seven and the Cougars going 14-for-23, with most of those coming last in the second half. Charleston out-rebounded Stetson, 44-31.
Following Williams' 15 points was Green with 10. Erica Irick paced the team in rebounds with seven. Nefertiti Walker led the Hatters with 12 points, while Mia Johnson and Jaclyn Piloto led in rebounds with five apiece.
The Cougars host former SoCon foe East Tennessee State Dec. 7th at 7:00 PM at the John Kresse Arena, while Stetson plays at Florida A&M Dec. 17th at 2:00 PM.
