
CofC Women?s Basketball Falls to UNC Wilmington, 66-47

The UNC Wilmington Seahawks used a 16-21 effort from the free throw line and out-rebounded the Cougars, 43-20, to take the 66-47 win over the College of Charleston in women's basketball action tonight in front of 268 fans at the John Kresse Arena.
Charleston falls to 0-2 on the season, while the Seahawks remain undefeated at 3-0.
Erika Smith and Jill Furstenburg paced the Cougars with 12 points apiece. Furstenburg led in rebounds with six. As a team Charleston shot 38.9 percent from the floor, going 21-for-54. The Cougars went five-for-21 from behind the three-point arc for 23.8 percent. For the second straight game Smith posted three blocks, while Furstenburg had five steals in teh game.
Leading UNC Wilmington was Greta Luksyte with 18 points, followed by Brittany Blackwell with 12. Candace Wallace led the team in rebounds with 11. UNC Wilmington shot 47.9 percent from the floor, including 55.6 in the second half to help seal the win. The Seahawks were 16-for-21 from the free throw line for a 76.2 percentage.
UNC Wilmington held the edge in turnovers, 24-19 and trailed the Cougars in assists, 14-12.
Charleston travels takes off for Thanksgiving before traveling to North Carolina, Tuesday, Nov. 27th for a 7:00 p.m. tip-off.
