CofC Equestrian Wins Zones, Qualify for Nationals

The College of Charleston equestrian team won the Zone 5 Championship at Berry College in Rome, Ga. on Apr. 7 and qualified for the Nationals at the Big E in West Springfield, Mass. from May 2-7.

The Cougars scored 45 points for the victory, while Berry College finished second with 44 points and The University of the South rounded out the top three with 39 points.

Here were the class results for CofC:

Bridget Haley won the Walk Trot Canter event, while Lyndsey Renkin finished third in the Walk Trot. Tess Mostyn and Tara Bliss each won the Novice Flat and Novice Fences competitions respectively. Julia Nichols won the Intermediate Fences class, while Erin Boles finished third in the Intermediate Flat. Finally, Hannah Mayer placed second in the Open Flat class and Ali Joyce rounded out the Cougars with finishing third in Open Fences.

Mayer, the winner of the Zone 5, Region 3 Cacchione Cup, which is awarded to the top rider in her zone and region, will participate in the national Open Fences competition and Joyce will ride in the intermediate fences at nationals.
