
Cougars Fall, 60-49, to Western Carolina

The Catamounts out-rebounded the Cougars, 59-37, as Western Carolina defeated the College of Charleston women's basketball team, 60-49, this evening at the Ramsey Center in Cullowhee, N.C.
Charleston drops its third straight to go to 9-10 overall and 5-4 in the Southern Conference. Western Carolina improves to 15-6 and 7-2 in the leaugue.
Included in the rebound total was a 30-13 advantage in offensive rebounds for the Catamounts. That enabled Western to take 18 more shots, 76-58.
Both teams struggled offensively as the score remained tight throughout most of the game. That changed with 1:27 to go in the game. With the Cougars only down by four, 50-46, the Catamounts went on a 10-3 run to put the game away and take the 60-49 win.
Charleston held Western Carolina to just 32.9 percent shooting from the floor and 7.7 percent from beyond the three-point arc. The Cougars shot 34.5 percent from the field and 18.8 percent in three-pointers.
Jill Furstenburg led all scorers with 16 on the night, while Deidra Jones pulled down a team-leading 11 rebounds for the Cougars. Jessika Johnson and Lauren Powell both led the Catamounts in scoring with 11 each. Chevon Keith paced WCU with her 13 rebounds.
Turnovers were fairly even with Charleston owning the 13-12 edge. The Catamounts out-scored the Cougars, 34-14, in the paint and had the 14-0 advantage in fast break points.
Charleston hosts Elon Sat., Feb. 2nd at 2:00 p.m., while Western Carolina hosts Davidson the same day at 4:00 p.m.
