
CofC Takes On Nationally Ranked North Carolina on FSN South

The College of Charleston men's basketball team will take on nationally ranked North Carolina in a 9 p.m. tipoff on FSN South at the Dean Smith Center on Jan. 7th. The Tar Heels entered the weekend ranked No. 1, but dropped an 85-78 decision to Boston College on Sunday.
The Cougars and Tar Heels are meeting for the fifth time on the hardwood, the first time in Chapel Hill. The series is tied 2-2. Charleston and North Carolina played four times at the Charlotte Coliseum from 1998 to 2001. The Cougars upset third-ranked North Carolina, 66-64, on Danny Johnson's putback with 0.1 seconds left on Dec. 5, 1998. The Cougars finished the 1998-99 season with a 28-3 record and ranked 16th in the final AP poll. North Carolina beat the Cougars, 72-54, on Dec. 3, 1999 and 64-60 on Dec. 30, 2000. The Cougars downed UNC, 66-60, on Dec. 21, 2001. Charleston coach Bobby Cremins is 12-32 against North Carolina, 4-16 in Chapel Hill.
