College of Charleston Sailing Post Two Top Fives in Weekend Action

The College of Charleston sailing team competed in three regattas Oct. 17-18 and came away with two top five finishes and a 10th. Charleston placed fifth at the Yale Women's Intersectional, fourth at the Navy Fall Intersectional and 10th at the Captain Hurst Bowl.
The Cougars won one race and placed in the top 10 in 15 others to finish fifth out of 20 teams at the Yale Women's Intersectional held in Branford, Conn. Charleston totaled 150 points after the A-Division came in fourth with 66 points and the B-Division placed seventh with 84. Host Yale won the regatta with a 117.
Charleston placed fourth out of 20 teams at the Navy Fall Intersectional held in Annapolis, Md. The Cougars finished with 576 points as the A-Team, led by Jackson Benvenutti, Christina Murray and Brooks Clark, totaled 190 and placed 10th. Zeke Horowitz and Erin Markee sailed in the B-Division and totaled 134 points for third. Juan Maegli won the C- Division for the Cougars with 55 points. He won nine races and finished in the top five in five others. Allison Blecher finished 10th with 197 points in the D-Division. Roger Williams placed first overall with 468 points.
The Cougars finished fifth in the A-Division and 14th in the B-Division to place 10th overall out of 20 teams at the Captain Hurst Bowl held at Dartmouth. Host Dartmouth won the regatta with 39 points. Charleston finished with 78. Steven Barbano and Katie Weaver crewed the A-Division to 29 points, while Ben Spector and Beck Bestoso led the B-Division to 14th with 49. In eight races, Charleston finished in the top 10 in five of them.
CofC competes Oct. 24-25 at the Stu Nelson Women's Intersectional in New London, Conn., and the Hoyt Trophy Regatta in Providence, R.I. Charleston also competes at the ICSA Sloop National Championships in New London, Conn., Oct. 23-25.
