Cougar Sailors Earn Three Top 10 Finishes in Weekend Events

The College of Charleston sailing team won the SAISA Dinghy Championships, placed eighth in the Erwin Schell Trophy and ninth in the Victorian Coffee Urn Regatta in action Oct. 31 - Nov. 1.
In 22 races, Charleston won nine and placed in the top five in the rest of them to win the SAISA Dinghy Championships held at Eckerd in St. Petersburg, Fla. The win qualifies the Cougars to compete at the Atlantic Coast Championships to be held Nov. 14-15 in Boston, Mass. Charleston won with 56 points, eight points ahead of Miami. Jackson Benvenutti (Bay St. Louis, Miss.) and Christina Murray (Annapolis, Md.) led the A-Division to the win with 19 points after winning seven of the 11 division races. Steven Barbano (Cranbury, N.J.) and Katie Weaver (Davidsonville, Md.) sailed in the B-Division and came away with fourth.
The Cougars finished 15th in the A-Division and fifth in the B-Division to place 8th overall out of 20 teams at the Erwin Schell Trophy Regatta held in Boston, Mass. Yale won the event with 262 points. Charleston finished with 394 points. Mac Mace (Newport Beach, Calif.) and Sarah Burks (St. John, USVI) posted 249 points in the A-Division while Zeke Horowitz (Sarasota, Fla.) and Corinna DeCollibus (Duxbury, Mass.) scored 145 points in the B-Division after finishing in the top 10 in 16 races.
Charleston earned a 13th in the A-Division and fifth in the B-Division to take ninth out of 16 teams at the Victorian Coffee Urn held in Boston, Mass. Charleston finished with 146 points, with Boston College winning the event with 57. Corey Hall (St. Petersburg, Fla.) and Caroline Warren (Charleston, S.C.) came away with 96 points for 13th in the A-Division while Kathryn Metscher (Duxbury, Mass.) and Cristy Jamison (Rye, N.Y.) ended with 50 points for fifth in the B-Division.
The Cougars next compete at the ICSA Singlehanded National Championships in Corpus Christi, Texas, Nov. 6-8.
