Maegli Wins ICSA Singlehanded Championship, Blecher Third

Juan Maegli (Guatemala) won five races and placed in the top five in eight others to win the ICSA/LaserPerformance Men's Singlehanded Championship held Nov. 6-8 at the Corpus Christi Yacht Club in Corpus Christi, Texas. Allison Blecher (Fullerton, Calif.) finished third in the Women's Championship after placing in the top five in 11 races, including four wins.
Maegli opened the regatta with two wins in the first two races before taking a fourth, a fifth and a second in the next three. He took first in the sixth and seventh races before following it with a top 10 and five top fives in the next six races. Maegli's final first-place finish was in the 15th race. He finished with 66 points, which put him 13 points ahead of second-place Frederick Strammer of Brown.
Blecher began her competition with three top 10 finishes, including a win in the second race. She rebounded from a 14th in the fourth race to win the fifth. In the final 13 races, Blecher took a top five in 10 of them, including two wins.
Corey Hall (St. Petersburg, Fla.) also competed for the Cougars and took 12th in the Women's Championship. She finished in the top 15 in all but two races and had three top fives.
