Cougars Sail to Successful Weekend

The College of Charleston sailing team competed in three events Feb. 20-21 and came away with a third at the Charleston Spring Intersectional, a seventh at the USF Women's Intersectional and a win at the SASA Open.
The Cougars finished in the top five in 13 races in their third-place out of 18 teams at the Charleston Spring Intersectional held at the J. Stewart Walker Sailing Center, which included three second-place finishes and two wins. Mac Mace and Corinna DeCollibus sailed for Charleston in the A-Division and totaled 55 points for third, while Sam Stokes and Perry Emsiek led the B-Division to third with 72 points. The Cougars totaled 127 points, with first-place Georgetown finishing with 87.
Charleston placed two teams in the top 10 of 16 participants at the USF Women's Intersectional held Feb. 20-21 at St. Petersburg, Fla., with the first group finishing seventh with 69 points and the second group taking ninth with 78. The first group, behind the efforts of Corey Hall and Sarah Gomes, won two races and finished in the top 10 in five others, while Kathryn Metscher and Cristy Jamison led the second group to eight top 10 finishes, including a second in the third race.
CofC won 10 races and finished in the top five in 14 others to total 53 points and earn the 26-point win over South Florida at the SAISA Open held Feb. 20-21 in St. Petersburg, Fla. Charleston took the win over 19 teams in the A-Division with 26 points, as well as the B-Division with 27 points.
The Cougars are next in action Feb. 27-28 at the Old South Intersectional in Gainesville, Fla., and the Bob Bavier Team Race Intersectional at the J. Stewart Walker Sailing Center.
