Emily Smith places second at Virginia Tech Final Qualifier

BLACKSBURG, VA ? Freshman Emily Smith (Rock Hill, S.C.) capped off her freshman indoor campaign this past weekend at the Virginia Tech final qualifier, as she placed second with a 1.77 meter effort in the high jump.
The effort at the Virginia Tech meet competes a record-setting indoor season for Smith, who set the school mark in the high jump on separate occasions. She also earned Southern Conference Freshman of the Year honors and placed first in the high jump at the SoCon meets two weeks ago.
"Emily had an incredible indoor season garnering Freshman of the Year honors along with her first place finish at the Conference Meet," said assistant coach Chad Williams. "Her last three indoor meets all ended with her jumping higher than her high school personal record,”
“She is a gifted athlete and follows it up with hard work and fierce competitive fire. We are looking forward to seeing what she can do this outdoor season."
Smith will return to action in two weeks at Shamrock Invitational which is hosted by Coastal Carolina University. The rest of the squad will be competing at the Coastal Carolina Invitational held on March 13-14.
