Head Coach Nancy Wilson
On being able to play her bench
“The game tonight was exactly what I had hoped it would be for us - an opportunity for everybody to get some minutes. We've got some really good kids on our bench who just don't get a lot of playing time because we have such a strong senior class. So I was hoping we'd get a chance to see them in action, get them on the court and also to be able to combine some of our more experienced players with our less experienced players. Fortunately tonight we could do that”.
Speaking on the difference in the second half
“Savannah State did some good things to keep it close but once we went to the 1-3-1 zone and some different people warmed a little bit, it was a good game for us”.
About the Cougars' depth
“In an ideal situation we'd beat everybody by 20-30 points and everybody would get to play but we're just happy to be winning so we're not complaining. We've got a team that's playing very well. Just the one thing is with 15 people on a team and so many strong upperclassmen it just doesn't open up the opportunities for the younger ones. But the good thing for the younger ones is that they get to play against one of the strongest teams in the Southern Conference everyday. So it's not like they are not getting something very positive out of it”.
On the play of Erica Williams and Latisha Harris
“For Ericka Williams to have scored 16 points in 19 minutes, she really made things more comfortable for everybody”.
“For the last two or three games that Latisha has played in, she's really taken great steps. Now that things have started clicking for her, she is starting to become the player we all knew she could be. I think she is very much in a position where she can help us down the stretch and that's all she needs to do this year is help us”.
About what the Cougars need to succeed in the stretch run of the SoCon
“We really have been playing well. I just think we really need to continue with where we are. The important thing is to have everything come together each night. Some nights we rebound well, some nights we shoot well, some nights we play defense well. All of that stuff needs to start coming together on a consistent basis heading down the stretch”.
Latisha Harris
On facing SSU's 6-7 Reynetta Phillips
“I've never really played against people that tall. This just helps me to learn how to control my body against someone with a height advantage. It was a challenge because I'd never really played against anyone that tall before I got to college”.
Ericka Williams
Speaking on her performance and approach to the game
“Basically I just came in with the mindset of not underestimating them and playing my game. I knew my minutes were going to be limited but I just focused on playing my game”.
