
Cougars Drop Five-Set Match to Furman

GREENVILLE, S.C. - Despite coming back from a 0-2 deficit, the College of Charleston volleyball team lost 2-3 to Furman Saturday afternoon (25-22, 25-12, 17-25, 23-25, 15-10).
Junior Sarah Havel led the Cougars (14-5, 3-1) with 17 kills and nine blocks and senior Cole Dawley picked up a double-double with 41 assists and 13 digs.
After totaling just one team block in the first two sets, the Cougars picked it up a notch on defense and blasted 13 for the match.
In the third set the Cougars held Furman (8-7, 2-1) to a .027 hitting efficiency (11 kills and 10 errors). CofC used the momentum from the third set to carry them to victory in set number four and force a decisive fifth set.
In the fifth set the score was knotted at 7-7, but Furman used a big run to put the game away and win the match.
The Cougars will go home and prepare for their next match, Friday, Oct. 8 against Georgia Southern. Prior to the match Dawley will be recognized with a game ball for her 3,000th career assist and senior Paige Johnson will be honored for her 1,000th career dig.
