
Cougars Honor Seniors, Beat Furman

CHARLESTON, S.C. - The College of Charleston volleyball team finished the regular season by avenging a previous loss to Furman and picking up their 12th straight conference win with a 3-0 victory against the Paladins Sunday at Carolina First Arena (25-15, 25-23, 25-22).
Prior to the match the Cougars (27-5, 15-1) honored their four seniors, who now have a combined record of 98-33 and finished 2010 with a regular season Southern Conference Championship.
Junior Elyse Chubb continued her dominance as she reached the .500 hitting percentage mark for the second consecutive game with 13 kills and a .526 hitting efficiency.
Playing in their final match at home the seniors shined on the court. Ginny Phillips totaled 11 kills and Whitney Russell added eight. Cole Dawley guided the offensive attack with 42 assists. Paige Johnson, the senior libero led the team with seven digs on the defensive end.
The Cougars hit over .300 for each set and finished at .333 compared to Furman (17-11, 11-5) at .283.
Having finished the regular season, the Cougars will play in the Southern Conference Tournament Nov. 19-21 on the campus of Appalachian State University. The Cougars will play Friday at 12:30p.m. against Samford.
