
Cougars Host Two Key SoCon Games

The College of Charleston women's basketball team hosts two Southern Conference games over the next three days as the Cougars take on 2010 Southern Conference Champion Chattanooga Thursday, Dec. 16 at 7 p.m. and Samford Saturday, Dec. 18 at 6 p.m.
Both the Mocs and Bulldogs are tied for first atop the league standings with a 1-0 record.
The Cougars (3-5, 0-1) have been off since a Dec. 1 victory over UNC Pembroke in non-conference action. Charleston earned the 55-50 win after using a 14-4 run to erase a late four-point deficit and take the five-point decision.
The Cougars are led by Tonia Gerty (Port Orange, Fla.) with 11.4 points per game and Janae Smith (Matteson, Ill.) with 7.8. Deidre Ramer (Franklin, Tenn.) is pulling down 6.0 rebounds a game to pace the team.
Chattanooga is 3-5 overall and 1-0 in the Southern Conference. The Mocs are coming off a 64-79 loss to Kentucky Dec. 11. UTC had won two straight before that, including an 87-80 decision over Georgia Southern. The Mocs are led by Whitney Hood with 21.1 points and 6.8 rebounds per game. Tenisha Townsend follows with 11.1 points and 3.6 assists a game
Samford (6-2, 1-0) has been idle since defeating ACC foe Clemson, 58-48 Dec. 12th. The Bulldogs, who have won six in a row, are led by Emily London with 16.0 points and Savannah hill with 10.5 points per game. Hill also leads the team in rebounds with 5.1. In its lone conference game, Samford defeated Western Carolina 63-48.
Charleston will take a break for the Christmas holidays before traveling to North Carolina Dec. 28th for a 2 p.m. game.
