Cougar Sailors Win Bob Bavier Team Race Invite

The College of Charleston sailing team won 20 races, including five straight in the final round, to win the Bob Bavier Team Race Invite held Feb. 27-28 at the J. Stewart Walker Sailing Center in Mt. Pleasant, S.C. Georgetown went 19-4 to finish second while Navy was third with a 13-10 mark.
The Cougars went 8-1 in the first round robin competition and then went 7-2 in the second round robin, placing first in both to advance to the finals. Charleston competed against five other schools in the finals, picking up the win against all of them. The Cougars went 20-3 overall.
Serving as skippers for the Cougar sailing team were Jackson Benvenutti (Bay St. Louis, Miss.), Zeke Horowitz (Sarasota, Fla.) and Juan Maegli (Guatemala). Crew members were Christina Murray (Annapolis, Md.), Erin Markee (Del Mar, Calif.), Katie Weaver (Davidsonville, Md.), Alyssa Aitken (Sandwich, Mass.), Sam Stokes (Norfolk, Ca.) and Brooks Clark (Newport Beach, Calif.).
The Cougars next compete Mar 6-7 at the Eckerd Intersectional in St. Petersburg, Fla., the Graham Hall Team Race in Annapolis, Md., and North Points #2 in Raleigh, N.C. CofC also hosts the Charleston Women's Intersectional at the J. Stewart Walker Sailing Center.
