Charleston Sailors Win SAISA Team Race Championship

The College of Charleston sailing team only dropped one race to go 14-1 and win the South Atlantic Intercollegiate Sailing Association (SAISA) Team Race Championship held at the J. Stewart Walker Sailing Center in Mt. Pleasant, S.C. The Cougars, along with Eckerd which placed second with an 11-4 mark, qualified for the Intercollegiate Sailing Association (ICSA) Team Race National Championship to be held May 29-31, in Madison, Wisc.
The Cougars went swept the first and second rounds, going 5-0 each time, before dropping a race in the third and final round to go 4-1.
Skippering for Charleston was Zeke Horowitz (Sarasota, Fla.), Juan Maegli (Guatemala) and Jackson Benvenutti (Bay St. Louis, Miss.). Erin Markee (Del Mar, Calif.), Brooks Clark (Newport Beach, Calif.), Katie Weaver (Davidsonville, Md.), Perry Emsiek (Corona del Mar, Calif.) and Sam Stokes (Norfolk, Va.) serves as crew for the races.
Charleston is next in action April 24-25, when it travels to Kings Point, N.Y. for the Admiral's Cup and New London, Conn., for the Thompson Trophy. The Cougars also host the SAISA Women's Championship in Mt. Pleasant, S.C.
