
The Links at Stono Ferry Wins State Golf Course of the Year

CHARLESTON, S.C. - The College of Charleston men's and women's home golf course, the Links at Stono Ferry was recently awarded the state of South Carolina Golf Course of the Year award by the South Carolina Golf Course Owners Association. This comes on the heels of Stono Ferry also winning the Charleston Area Golf Course of the Year Award in August.
The South Carolina Board of Directors selected The Links at Stono Ferry as its winner based on the following criteria established by the National and State Golf Course Owners Associations: exceptional quality of the course, exceptional quality of the management, outstanding contribution to the community and significant contribution to the game of golf.
"This is a great honor for the golf course and we are happy to be able to call if home," CofC Head Men's Golf Coach Mark McEntire said. "I think this will help greatly in our recruiting as we continue to build our resume to attract the top golfers in the country."
"This is a big day for Stono Ferry," Club General Manager and PGA Professional Greg Wood said. "This award means everything and speaks to the unwavering dedication and support of our owner, Pat Barber, and our dedicated staff to make Stono Ferry the very best it can be day in and day out. We not only work together to provide a great experience for our members and daily fee guests, we have remained committed to being a great partner in the community. Giving back is a central philosophy here and it gives us great pride when we help those in need," said Wood.
"Stono Ferry should be very proud of the respect their fellow owners and operators have shown with this award," said Terry Sedalik, Executive Director of the South Carolina Golf Course Owners Association. "Their efforts to make Stono Ferry and the golf industry more successful are too be commended and this award signifies the contributions they have made to the game of golf," said Sedalik.
Stono Ferry is now eligible for the National Golf Course of the Year Award which is expected to be announced later this year. Stono Ferry became eligible for the statewide award after winning the 2011 Charleston Area Golf Course of the Year award this summer.
