COLLEGE PARK, MD. – Afreyea Tolbert scored 20 points and the Cougars forced 11 turnovers on Sunday, but it wasn't enough as a slow start gave the No. 8-ranked Terrapins an unassailable lead and a 103-51 victory against the Cougars in the championship game of the Terrapin Classic.
The College fall to 7-5, while the Terrapins improve to 12-1 on the year.
Tolbert and Breanna Bolden (Edgewater, MD.) were the leading scorers for the College, combining for 31 points. Tolbert's 20 point performance was her third highest of the year and helped her to garner all-tournament team honors. Bolden – since entering the starting lineup against South Carolina State seven games ago – has been averaging almost 11 points and 5 rebounds per game. Shannon Hines (Spindale, N.C.) also added a season-high 10 points off the bench.
Alyssa Thomas, a first team all-american last season, led all Maryland players with 28 points and 10 rebounds.
In an improved second-half performance, the College shot at a 35.3% clip, including 17 bench points and six points off turnovers.
Next up for the Cougars is a Thursday bout with East Carolina, at TD Arena, with tipoff scheduled for 7 p.m.

On the takeaways from today's loss…
“ We didn't give up and we stayed together as a team. The shots we took were good shots, they just didn't fall today. We continued to push back in the second half and we never lost our confidence. Today's game shows us what we need to work on as we head in to conference play. I believe this game will help us grow as a team and become even better going forward.”
