
Cougar Track & Field Has Success at Multiple Meets

CHARLESTON, S.C. - It was a record setting day for the College of Charleston women's track & field team as they had student-athlete competing at the Shamrock Invitational in Myrtle Beach, S.C. and at the Georgia Southern Invitational in Statesboro, Ga.
"I thought this was an excellent weekend of competition for us," CofC head coach Amy Seago said. "It was great to get a preview of the track at Georgia Southern where the SoCon Outdoor Championships will be held in April. All of our kids competed well and I'm looking forward to the coming weeks as we travel to some meets with an increased level of competition."

Junior Christine Klinar set the facility and CofC school record in the javelin throw as the won the event with a career-best throw of 39.39 meters (129 feet, two inches).
Sophomore Hayley McMahon won both the 1500-meter run (4:47.53) and the 5,000-meter run (18:27.78).
Sophomore Dyshia Parks set a career-best in the long jump with a mark of 5.23 meters. In the triple jump freshman Roshani Glover finished in second-place with a jump of 11.38 meters, the eighth best mark in school history.
Also in the throwing events sophomore Tiffany Sisk set the fourth-best mark in school history in the shot put as she finished second in the competition with a throw of 13.36 meters.
Also competing in the 1,500-meter run sophomores Danielle Sams (third-place, 5:05.96) and Trish Rein (fourth-place, 5:09.90) set career-bests in the event.
Junior Lorna Doucette set a career-best in the 200-meter dash as she crossed the finish line in 26.13 for eighth-place in the race.
Shamrock Invitational
The Cougars sent three athletes from the multi-event group to compete in the heptathlon, a series of seven events over two days.
Junior Kaitlin McWhorter finished fourth-place out of 23 competitors with a point total of 4,113, the seventh best in school history. McWhorter got her highest point total in the 800-meter run, which she finished third in 2:29.38 for 701 points.
Freshman Ciera Holston finished in ninth-place with 3,703 points and fellow freshman Brianna McDonald finished 15th with 3,393 points in each of their first time competing in the event.
For McWhorter and Holston they finished with the top two marks in school history for the javelin in a heptathlon competition. McWhorter had a throw of 32.47 meters and Holston threw the javelin 32.23 meters.
Up next the Cougars travel to Columbia, S.C. for the Weems Baskin Relay March 22-23 hosted by South Carolina.
