WILMINGTON, N.C. – The College of Charleston women's soccer team was shut out in its regular season finale by UNCW 4-0 Sunday afternoon at UNCW Soccer Field.
The Cougars (8-9-1, 2-6-1 CAA) end the regular season being shut out for the fifth straight game despite holding significant shot advantages in multiple matches.
The Seahawks (13-5-1, 6-2-1), who clinched the third seed in the CAA tournament, used a second half explosion to bring the game out of reach. Stephanie Bronson gave UNCW an early 1-0 lead when she scored in the 22nd minute on an assist from Maddie McCormick.
After 15 minutes went by in the second half, the Seahawks scored two goals in less than one minute. Kennedy Ulrich made it 2-0 while Bronson set up McCormick to return the favor from her goal to make it 3-0 in the 60th minute. UNCW tacked on an insurance goal in the 73rd minute off of the foot of Serenity Waters to extend their lead to 4-0.
The Cougars were outshot 15-8 and did not produce a corner kick. Senior Nicole Koretsky led the Cougar attack with two shots on goal while junior goalkeeper Lauren Killian made two saves in the loss.
Sophomore defender Rio Speller-Drews ended the season logging every minute of all 18 games (1650 minutes) for CofC this season.
