
College of Charleston Volleyball Sweeps Elon

CHARLESTON, S.C. – Behind double-digit kills from Melissa Morello and Devon Rachel, the College of Charleston volleyball team defeated Elon 3-0 (25-20, 25-17, 25-17) on Friday at TD Arena.
“I thought we played a solid, consistent match. We attacked well and defended well,” CofC head coach Jason Kepner said. “We had great support from our students and our players responded.”
The Cougars (15-12, 7-6 CAA) cruised after a hard-fought first set. Tied 13-13, Kayla Tronick landed a kill that sparked a 12-7 run to hand CofC the set, 25-20. Morello found her groove in the second frame recoding five kills including three straight to give The College a 17-8 advantage. CofC took a 12-3 in the final set and never looked back.
Freshman Allison Beckman posted 37 assists and McKala Rhodes finished a match-high with 20 digs. Rachel sprayed 10 kills to assist offensively; it was the freshman's 12th game wit double-digit kills this season. CofC out-hit Elon .372-.140 on the night and hit over .400 in the last two sets. The College improves its all-time record against the Phoenix (6-21, 2-11) to 17-1.
The Cougars will look to win their third consecutive match as William & Mary visits TD Arena for a 7 p.m. showdown on Saturday. The game will be streamed live on CofCSports.com. Live state will be available at CofCStats.com.
