PENDLETON, S.C. – The College of Charleston equestrian team rode to a reserve championship finish at Clemson's Fall IHSA Show held at the Equine Complex on Sunday.
Clemson won the day with 38 points followed by CofC with 35 points. The Cougars increased their overall lead in the IHSA Zone 5 Region 3 standings to 22 points over Converse College.
Sophomore Avery Jackson (Mechanicsbury, Pa.) started the day off winning Open Flat (Section A) followed by junior Annie Kuniansky (Atlanta, Ga.) winning Open Fences (Section A).
Intermediate Flat (Section B) was won by sophomore Sophie Meserve (Portsmouth, N.H.), while Advanced Walk/Trot/Canter (Section B) was won by freshman Samantha Bledsoe (St. Charles, Ill.). Blue-ribbon finishes were also turned in by sophomore Emilia Vawter (Goshen, Ky.) in Novice Flat (Section D) and freshman Annika Vilcins (Wilmington, N.C.) in Beginner Walk/Trot/Canter (Section B).
"We had a pretty good day at Clemson," CofC Head Coach Bob Story said. "We still need to address a few issues to get the team competing at a higher level. I constantly remind myself that this is an incredibly young team and they are doing quite well. The upperclassmen are doing a great job leading by example. I'm hoping that we will have a break-out performance at home on Nov. 19."
The Cougars will train the next few weeks before hosting the College of Charleston Show on Saturday, Nov. 19 at Storybook Farms on Johns Island, S.C.
