JOHNS ISLAND, S.C. – For only the third time in school history and since 1983, the College of Charleston equestrian team rode to a perfect score (49 points) winning its fall College of Charleston Show on Saturday afternoon at Storybook Farms.

It also marked the first time the Cougars rode to a perfect score at home under long-time head coach Bob Story. CofC won the competition by a 32-point margin of victory ahead of South Carolina (17 points), who was the reserve high point college. Coastal Carolina, Furman and Georgia Southern all tied for third place with 15 points.

Freshman Gabrielle Bernier (Parkton, Md.) and junior Hannah Showell (Ocean City, Md.) both tied as high point rider by virtue of winning both of their classes. Bernier won blue ribbons in Intermediate Fences and Novice Flat, while Showell won both Open Flat and Open Fences.
Junior Christina Hayden won Intermediate Flat (Section B), while sophomore Mia Vawter won Novices Fences (Section A). Freshman Hannah Bell won her section of Novice Flat, while freshman Samantha Bledsoe and junior Madison King each won their sections of Advanced Walk / Trot / Canter. Junior Emily Rees won Beginner Walk / Trot / Canter and junior Mikaela Andrews won Walk Trot.

"I've literally been waiting for this team to show up and perform like this all year," Story said. "They showed up and rode to as near as perfect as you can be today. With just two seniors and a pretty young team, I am very proud of our efforts. Our 32-point margin of victory will keep us ahead in the region standings for sure."

The equestrians close out the fall season on top with three first-place finishes and two reserve finishes. They will return to competition in the spring at the Georgia Southern Show on Saturday, Feb. 4 at Evermore Farms in Brooklet, Ga.
