Top 3 Finishes For Cougars at Spring Break Regattas

CHARLESTON, S.C. – From its home-hosted team race event to competitions in the Upstate and Florida, the College of Charleston sailing team finished first, second and third at all three of its respective regattas over spring break.
The Cougars made a runner-up finish out of the 10-team field at the Bob Bavier Team Race held at the J. Stewart Walker Sailing Complex in Mt. Pleasant, S.C. Jake Reynolds, Chloe Dapp, Ryan Davidson, Emily Stuart, Reed Baldridge, Bayley Davidson, Dodge Rees, Beka Schiff and Grace McCarthy sailed a very impressive regatta compiling a 20-4 record. CofC tied Georgetown, who took over the lead during the last race of the event. The racing was very close and very intense among the competitors over the two-day event.
The Cougars finished third out of 17 teams at the two-division Eckerd Intersectional hosted by Eckerd College with a 113 points in St. Petersburg, Fla. Elizabeth Pemberton, Kayla Adelman, Clare Dahl and Marissa Bamonte sailed a great regatta finishing just a few points behind the leader in A-and B-Divisions, while Charlie Morano, Mac Dickson, Robert Porter and Irene Abascal sailed their way up to a sixth-place finish in both divisions.
“I am very proud of the effort put in by the whole team this weekend racing and running our home-hosted Bob Bavier Team Race,” CofC Head Coach Ward Cromwell said. “We are happy with our progress and excited for the coming weekends of competition.”
In North Points #2 competition hosted by Clemson, freshmen Carter Cameron, Maura Lonergan, Elizabeth Mignon and Hannah Baylis won the 10-team regatta. The group sailed a total of eight races finishing with just nine points.
The CofC sailors will return to action after the break at four events: North Points #3 hosted by Georgia Tech on March 12-13 in Atlanta, Ga., the Harbor Cup Offshore regatta on March 12-13 in Los Angeles, Calif., the St. Mary's Team Race event hosted by St. Mary's College of Maryland on March 12-13 in St. Mary's, Md., and the home-hosted Charleston Spring Coed on March 12-13 at the J. Stewart Walker Sailing Complex.
