Cougars Host SAISA Men's Singlehanded Championship As Part Of Four-Regatta Weekend

CHARLESTON, S.C. – Four weekend regattas are ahead for the College of Charleston coed and offshore sailing teams including the home-hosted SAISA Men's Singlehanded Championship on Saturday, Sept. 24 at the J. Stewart Walker Sailing Complex in Mt. Pleasant, S.C.
Two Rio Olympians will compete in the one-day event including two-time defending SAISA Men's Singlehanded champion Stefano Peschiera (Lima, Peru), who competed in Men's Laser at the Rio Games.
Joining him is fellow Olympian Enrique Arathoon (Guatemala City, Guatemala), who also advanced to nationals last year in the men's singlehanded discipline, as well as sophomore Gerald Williams (Sai Kung, Hong Kong, China) and freshman Steven Leuck (San Diego, Calif.).
CofC will also travel to the St. Mary's Intersectional hosted by St. Mary's College of Maryland on Sept. 24-25 in St. Mary's, Md., and North Points #3 hosted by Clemson on Sept. 24 in Clemson, S.C.
Sailing for the Cougars in A-Division at St. Mary's will be freshman skipper Nicolas Muller (Fort Pierce, Fla.) with freshmen crew Laura Masterson and Patrick Shannon. Rio Olympian Paris Henken (Coronado, Calif.) will skipper B-Division with junior crew Elizabeth Pemberton (Osterville, Mass.).
Up at Clemson, freshmen Jonathan Noyes, Keely Gregg, Maxwell Williams and Anna Cornetta will compete in their first collegiate regatta.
Sailing For A Cause: This weekend, the CofC offshore squad will help raise funds to support life-saving cancer research for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society with the Leukemia Offshore Cup on Sept. 23-25 on Charleston Harbor.
