KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. – The College of Charleston men's golf team turned in a Top-5 finish at the CSU East Bay Deli Classic hosted by Charleston Southern at the Kiawah Island Golf Resort's Turtle Point course.
The Cougars got two par-or-better scores on the final day of tournament play from sophomore Christian Baliker (Simpsonville, S.C.) and freshman Raphael Geissler (Karlsruhe, Germany) to place fourth overall in the 15-team field with a three-round score of 896 (+32).
Baliker shot a 1-under par 71 with three birdies on Tuesday, while Geissler played the final 18 with three birdies good enough for an even-par round.
"We got solid rounds today from (Christian) Baliker, (Raphael) Geissler and (Jake) Budde," CofC Head Coach Mark McEntire said. "I am very happy to see that this team continues to improve every week. Our returning players from last year were a touch off this week and we still had a good finish. It was very encouraging to see from our newcomers."
Sophomore Michael Sass (Louisville, Ky.) was the Cougars' top finisher tying for 21st (+9), while Baliker finished 24th (+10) and sophomore Jake Budde (Austin, Texas) tied for 33rd (+13).
"It was a solid tournament this week for the program," McEntire said. "We have a quick turnaround and are teeing it up at Stono Ferry in two short days. If we can continue to improve from this week and I will consider our fall a success."
No. 26-ranked Tennessee won the tournament for the second-straight year with a three-round score of 873 (+9) followed by runner-up Jacksonville State (+17) and third-place Chattanooga (+20).
The Cougars will close out the fall portion of their schedule by hosting The Battle at Stono Ferry on Nov. 3-4 at The Links at Stony Ferry in Hollywood, S.C.
