CHARLESTON, S.C. – The College of Charleston men's golf team will close out the fall portion of its schedule by hosting The Battle at Stono Ferry on Nov. 3-4 at The Links at Stony Ferry in Hollywood, S.C.
The par-72 course, which is the home facility for both the CofC men's and women's golf programs, will play at 6,756 yards.
The tournament is the result of a reschedule due to Hurricane Irma that cancelled The Invitational at The Ocean Course, which was slated for Sept. 11-12.
"We want to thank Stono Ferry for coming to our aid when we had to reschedule our Ocean Course event that was cancelled by Hurricane Irma," CofC Head Coach Mark McEntire said. "We've had a solid fall and I am excited that the entire team will get a chance to play this week."
The Cougars welcome Augusta University, Campbell, Elon, Francis Marion, Georgia State, High Point, James Madison, Maryland, McNeese State and SMU this weekend. They are fresh off a fourth-place finish at the CSU East Bay Deli Classic on Oct. 31 at the Kiawah Island Golf Resort's Turtle Point course.
"In our last tournament, I felt that we had some solid play and we look for it to all come together this weekend," McEntire said. "This is a great field and one full of bubble teams that will be battling for at-large bids to NCAA Regionals."
CofC will start sophomore Michael Sass (Louisville, Ky.), sophomore Hunter Dunagan (Augusta, Ga.), freshman Raphael Geissler (Karlsruhe, Germany), sophomore Logan Sowell (Kershaw, S.C.) and sophomore Jake Budde (Austin, Texas).
Playing as individuals in the 68-player field will be sophomore Christian Baliker (Simpsonville, S.C.), freshman Reed Bentley (Spartanburg, S.C.) and sophomore Fitz Woodrow IV (Lexington, S.C.).
"(Assistant Coach) Alex (Ellis) and I are looking for a good week and to finish the fall out with a solid finish," McEntire said. "We hope fans will come out and watch us play, if their schedule allows. We would love to have some supporters out rooting us on."
The tournament format includes 36 holes of continuous play on Friday with a 9 a.m. (ET) shotgun start, while the final round will be held on Saturday with split tee times off the No. 1 and No. 10 at 8:15 a.m. (ET).
The Cougars will play alongside of SMU, JMU and Augusta during the first and second rounds. Live tournament scoring will be available for all rounds at: www.Golfstat.com.
