Peschiera, Williams Finish First-Second At Singlehanded Nationals

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. --- Stefano Peschiera (Lima, Peru) and Gerald Williams (Sai Kung, Hong Kong, China) finished one-two at the ICSA Men's Singlehanded National Championships, Kelly-Ann Arrindell (Port-of-Spain, Trinidad) and Marian Williams (Sai Kung, Hong Kong, China) placed third and fifth, respectively, at women's singlehanded nationals, and the offshore team finished fifth at the Kennedy Cup to cap off a banner weekend for the top-ranked College of Charleston sailing team on Sunday.
Peschiera claimed his second ICSA Men's Singlehanded National Championship in three years with a two-day total of 50 points – 14 ahead of teammate and second-place finisher Gerald Williams. In the women's event, Arrindell rebounded from a tough start to finish third, and only three points out of first-place. Marian Williams placed fifth with 76 points – eight shy of first – in her collegiate nationals debut.
The offshore team capped a strong weekend of sailing with a fifth-place finish at the Kennedy Cup, which serves as the offshore national championship regatta. At the event, Charleston accumulated 26 points to finish three points outside of the top-three. Representing the Cougars were: William Comerford (Annapolis, Md.), Will Hundahl (Marblehead, Mass.), Sam Tobio (Sarasota, Fla.), Sarah Wilkinson (Mystic, Conn.), Emily Essi (Cleveland, Ohio), Julia Lines (Southampton, Bermuda), Keenan Hilsinger (Brooklin, Maine), Burke Anvari (Westport, Conn.), and David Furst (New York, N.Y.).
The Cougars will sail in three regattas next weekend, including the ICSA Match Race Nationals at the J. Stewart Walker Sailing Complex on Friday, November 10 through Sunday, November 12. Charleston will also sail in the Atlantic Coast Coed on Saturday and Sunday in New York, N.Y., and the Atlantic Coast Women's on Saturday and Sunday in New London, Conn.
