ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – The College of Charleston wrapped up a stellar weekend of competition on Sunday, as the Cougars' coed team finished third at the SAISA Open, and the women's squad placed second at the USF Women's Intersectional.
The Cougars finished third at the SAISA with 66 points – 10 behind second-place and host Eckerd College, and 11 shy of first-place Jacksonville University. Freshman skipper Patrick Shannon (Newport Beach, Calif.) and freshman crew Maddy Nadelman (Newport Beach, Calif.) finished the weekend atop A-Division with 16 points, while freshman William Curtiss (Lake Bluff, Ill.) skippered B-Division to 40 points with sophomore crew Mac Dickson (Alexandria, Va.).
"Eckerd College hosted a great event despite the light and shifty conditions," said assistant coach Mitch Hall. "It served as a great learning experience for our young Cougars as they got off to a good start to the spring season!"
At the USF Women's, junior Clare Dahl (Newport Beach, Calif.) skippered A-Division with senior crew Bayley Davidson (Newport Beach, Calif.). Freshman skipper Nicole Simon (Coronado, Calif.) and Maura Lonergan (Marion, Mass.) represented the Cougars in B-Division as the Charleston finished second with 143 points behind host University of South Florida.
The Cougars will host the Charleston Women's Regatta next Saturday and Sunday, February 25 and 26, at the J. Stewart Walker Sailing Complex.
