The College Sails To Three Top-Five Finishes

MT. PLEASANT, S.C. – The College of Charleston sailing team posted a trio of top-five finishes this weekend, including a five-point victory at the SAISA Women's at the J. Stewart Walker Sailing Complex, and a third-place performance at the Aaron Szambecki Team Race in Norfolk, Va. The Cougars also placed fourth at the Admiral Moore Team Race in New York, N.Y.
The Cougars finished first at the SAISA Women's with 24 points – five ahead of second-place South Florida. Junior Paris Henken (Coronado, Calif.) and crew of senior Irene Abascal (Guatemala City, Guatemala) and freshman Kelly-Ann Arrindell (Port-of-Spain, Trinidad) sailed to the top of A-Division with 13 points, while junior Clare Dahl (Newport Beach, Calif.) skippered B-Division to 11 points with senior crew Bayley Davidson (Newport Beach, Calif.).
At the Szambecki Team Race, the Cougars finished in third with a record of 15-6 – four ahead of fourth-place St. Mary's, and three behind both Old Dominion and Georgetown. Gerald Williams (Sai Kung, Hong Kong, China), Stefano Peschiera (Lima, Peru), and Allie Toppa served as skippers, with Grace McCarthy (San Diego, Calif.), Annabel Carrington (White Stone, Va.), and Caroline Bracken (Bridgewater, Mass.) taking up crew positions.
The Cougars finished fourth at the Admiral Moore Team Race with a 9-5 record – including a 7-2 mark in the prelims – before going 2-3 in the top-six flight. Skippers Nicolas Muller (Fort Pierce, Fla.), Jack Cusick (Fairfield, Conn.), and Christophe Killian (Newport Beach, Calif.) teamed with crew of Liza Toppa, Chloe Dapp (Newport Beach, Calif.), Elizabeth Pemberton (Osterville, Mass.), and Peyton Alexander.
Charleston will race in two regattas next weekend on April 1 and 2: the Dellenbaugh Women's in Cranston, R.I., and the Lynn Marchiando Team Race in Cambridge, Mass.
