
Cougars Finish Third At Thompson Trophy

NEW LONDON, Conn. – The College of Charleston sailing team finished third in its quest for the Thompson Trophy, and ninth at the Navy Spring Coed Intersectional on Sunday to cap a productive weekend.
The College finished the weekend in third at the Thompson Trophy, one point behind second-place MIT, with a two-day total of 256 points. Junior skipper Stefano Peschiera (Lima, Peru) and junior crew Grace McCarthy (San Diego, Calif.) totaled 83 points to finish third in A-Division, while Jack Cusick (Fairfield, Conn.) and Chloe Dapp (Newport Beach, Calif.) placed fourth in B-Division with 79 points. Christophe Killian (Newport Beach, Calif.) and Elizabeth Pemberton (Osterville, Mass.) amassed 94 points in C-Division.
At the Navy Spring Coed, the Cougars totaled 271 points to finish ninth out of 20 teams. Alie Toppa skippered A-Division to 157 points along with Payton Alexander and Carter Cameron (Mt. Pleasant, S.C.). Junior Paris Henken (Coronado, Calif.) and senior Irene Abascal (Guatemala City, Guatemala) sailed to 114 points in B-Division.
The Cougars will set sail in two regattas next weekend: the Admiral's Cup in New York, N.Y. and the Boston Dinghy Cup in Cambridge, Mass. on Saturday and Sunday, April 22 and 23.
