Cougars Finish Fourth At Shortened Admiral's Cup

NEW YORK, N.Y. --- Gerald Williams (Sai Kung, Hong Kong, China) sailed his Laser to a second-place finish in C-Division, and Stefano Peschiera (Lima, Peru) and Grace McCarthy (San Diego, Calif.) placed third in A-Division to lead the College of Charleston sailing team to a fourth-place performance at the Admiral's Cup at Kings Point on Sunday afternoon.
The Cougars finished the weekend in fourth with 64 points – six points behind third-place Old Dominion, and four ahead of fifth-place Hampton after the 18-race regatta was shortened to just three as a result of poor weather on Saturday, and no wind on Sunday.
Peschiera and McCarthy accumulated 20 points in A-Division to finish third, while skipper Carter Cameron (Mt. Pleasant, S.C.) and his crew of Chloe Dapp (Newport Beach, Calif.) and Patrick Shannon (Newport Beach, Calif.) totaled 37 points in B-Division. Williams finished the weekend second in C-Division's Laser competition with six points – one point shy of the leader.
The Cougars return to action on May 23 and 24 when they kick off the ICSA National Championships with the Women's Semifinals. Charleston will host the complete lineup of the ICSA National Championships this season out of the J. Stewart Walker Sailing Complex: Women's National Semifinals (May 23-24), Women's Nationals (May 25-26), Team Race Nationals (May 27-29), Coed National Semifinals (May 30-31), and Coed National Finals (June 1-2).
